“A Clean Vessel Fitted for the Master’s Use”
A empty vessel is just a container, unfinished, un-purposed, non-useable object in a misfit rubbish like state. Per Jeremiah 18:4 “And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.”
What matters is not what’s on the outside, but rather what’s on the inside. Love, prayer, meditation, study, understanding, compassion, and patience, are all products of a clean vessel. As we strive to be worthy for the master’s use Matthew 19:19 reminds us “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” We must cleanse our hearts, minds and mouths of all things un-becoming.
The song “Too Close to the Mirror” comes to mind when I think about God’s goodness.
HUMAN MOODS HUMAN MIRROR GOD’S MIRROR
Forgiveness for transgression No Yes
Humble So So Yes
Lovable Maybe Yes
Patience Maybe Yes
God’s mirror is much more forgiving than ours. Jesus came to earth lived and then died on the cross; He was buried and rose from the dead and ascended to heaven for our sins. Jesus said in Matthew 18:22 “…. seventy times seven” He forgives.
A clean vessel is one that has been humbled by prayer, love, grace, and mercy. This is a “Clean Vessel Fitted For The Master’s Use”.
